Search Tips for Using the Food Scores Search
Searching for a specific food score can be more successful depending on how and how much information or how little you
enter in the search form. Search requests look to matching the exact information residing in the database.
For example, if you want to find Chili's Bar and Grill on 8008 Cedar Springs Rd.
you might not find that listing if you enter all that information in the
search form.
Why? Because its too much information. Maybe the name is listed as just Chili's in the database
or the street name is Cedar Spring in the database not Cedar Springs, so you would not get a match.
Start your search by entering an establishment name.
Try entering Chili or Chili's instead of the complete name. Entering Chilis
without the apostrophe would result in no match because it might be listed with the apostrophe in the
database. Entering Chili will display any establishment with the phrase or name "Chili" in their name, for example, you would get Chili's (with the apostrophe) and Chili Dog Cafe or Dave's Chili House.
Entering "taco" will get Taco Bell and El Taco Loco as well as any establishment with "taco" in its name.
NOTE: If you just enter A or B, etc. you will not get all the establishment names starting with an A or B, you will get any establishment name that has that letter anywhere in its name. Its not specific enough for this search.
Add the address
If the results using just the name gets you too many records, try narrowing the search by adding the name of the street
to the search (do not add the street type such as Dr or Rd, we have excluded this field from the search). For example, searching for Cafe may get you many more records that you want to browse but you know the establishment you are looking for is Cafe ??? on Skillman, try entering cafe in the name field and Skillman in the Street field to narrow down the search results.
We have added a field for the Street Number in the search form so you could search on 8008 and Cedar
Springs but again this may result in no match if you get too specific.
For example, entering Buckner in
the street name will result in listing every establishment in the city with that street name so you may want to narrow
the search by providing the street number.
But adding 2000 as the block number to the search will result
in no matches because the database will list the exact street number and you may not be sure of that so
enter a 2 for any block starting with 2 as in 2031 or 231 or 20 for the 2000 block or 21 for the 2100 block.
Zipcode
If you want to see all the matches in a specific zipcode just enter that zipcode and it will display them . Again to narrow that resulting search, you may want to add the establishment name or the street name. Entering 75201 will list all establishments in the database with that zipcode.
